Fresh from Carlisle: Mopars under $5K

Impossible? Not at all. Just don’t expect to find any big-block E-body cars on the list. Yet deals exist among the Mopar faithful who are still on the hunt for anything with a Pentastar. Fresh from the Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals meet this past weekend, a quick trip through the car corral came up with a few results under $5,000.

1966 Plymouth

Up first was this running, driving and complete 1966 Plymouth Valiant 200. Hemmings Muscle Machines editor Terry McGean and I took several minutes to look over the car, each of us pondering what would happen if we opted to make an offer and drive it home. The column-shift, bench seat clad compact was solid throughout, with the exception of some plastic on the left quarter above the wheel – possibly from a previous – and assumed – minor collision in its past. Sure, the driver’s seat was threadbare and the original paint had faded, but oh the possibilities. The asking price here was just $1,450, and should have already sold when we saw it on Saturday.

1972 Plymouth

We also happened across this 1972 Plymouth. Listed as a Road Runner by the seller, fender script claimed it to be a Satellite Custom. But McGean commented that it lacked the Custom trim level inside. No matter: For the $3,995 asking price (or offers/trades), one could hardly go wrong with this four-door that looked to have a complete lack of visible rust (body rot) – so long as you don’t mind the copious amount of brown.

More to follow shortly.
